CINQUECENTO DJs . 2022
I designed this series of imaginary and anachronistic portraits of young deejays who would have lived during the Italian Cinquecento, the Late Renaissance, with an artificial intelligence image generator. These portraits evoke Botticellian figures in a style that owes much to Agnolo Bronzino’s. As a photographer, I am interested in the future of photography, at the dawn of an era where images generated by artificial intelligences are shaking up our technological, cultural and artistic landscape, recalling the beginnings of photography and its first relationships to painting during the 19th century. With AI generated images, the dialogue between painting and photography opens a new chapter in its history. Is a portrait without an existing or having existed subject still a portrait ? This series also raises the question of the definition of photography today and its purpose in the post-digital era, as well as that of stereotypes, widely disseminated through information technologies, mass media and social networks.
Cette série de portraits fictifs et anachroniques de jeunes deejays qui auraient vécu pendant la Renaissance tardive italienne, au Cinquecento, a été conçue à l’aide d’un générateur d'images par intelligence artificielle. Ces portraits évoquent des figures Botticelliennes dans un style inspiré des peintures du Bronzino. En tant que photographe, je m’intéresse à l'avenir de la photographie, à l'aube d'une ère où les images générées par des intelligences artificielles bousculent notre paysage technologique, culturel et artistique, rappelant les débuts de la photographie et ses premiers rapports à la peinture au cours du XIXe siècle. Avec les images générées par l'IA, le dialogue entre la peinture et la photographie ouvre un nouveau chapitre de son histoire. Un portrait sans sujet existant ou ayant existé est-il encore un portrait ? Cette série pose également la question de la définition de la photographie aujourd'hui et de sa finalité à l'ère post-numérique, ainsi que celle des stéréotypes, largement diffusés par le biais des technologies de l’information, des médias de masse et des réseaux sociaux.
